Update Posthog Org Name

Overview

PostHog is an all-in-one product analytics and developer platform that helps product engineers understand user behavior, run experiments, and make data-driven product decisions. Your organization name is the primary identifier displayed across the PostHog dashboard and serves as the account label for team members and stakeholders. Updating the organization name ensures your team works under the correct branding and makes it easier to identify your account when managing multiple PostHog instances or organizations.

Before you begin

  • Active PostHog account with access to us.posthog.com
  • Administrator or owner role in the organization (organization name editing typically requires elevated permissions)
  • Current organization name or context (know which organization you are updating)

Begin on the main PostHog dashboard or any page within your PostHog account. Click the body area or use the 'Skip to content' link to ensure the page is fully loaded and the navigation menu is accessible.

Tip. This step ensures the page is fully rendered before you interact with navigation elements. If you're coming from a direct link, ensure you wait for the dashboard to fully load.

2
ClickOrganization settings

Navigate to Organization settings by clicking the 'Organization settings' option in the Settings menu. This option is typically found in the left sidebar under 'Settings' or in a dropdown menu.

Tip. Look for the Settings icon (often a gear icon) in the main navigation. Organization settings is usually near the bottom of the Settings submenu.

3
ClickOrganization name

Locate and click the 'Organization name' text input field to activate it for editing. This field contains your current organization name.

Tip. The text field will highlight or show a cursor when active, indicating it is ready for input. If the field is read-only, you may lack the necessary administrator permissions.
Step 3
4
TypeOrganization name

Type the new organization name into the active text field. Replace the current text with your desired organization name.

Tip. Organization names should be clear and professional. Keep them concise (under 100 characters) to avoid display issues in navigation menus and reports. Avoid special characters or excessive punctuation.
Warning. Ensure you enter the correct name, as this will be displayed across all PostHog dashboards and reports visible to your team. Double-check for typos before saving.
5
ClickSave

Click the 'Save' button to persist your organization name change. This action commits the new name to your PostHog account.

Tip. After clicking Save, wait a moment for the request to process. You should see a confirmation message or the page will automatically refresh to reflect the change.
Warning. Changing the organization name is permanent and will be visible to all team members immediately. Ensure the new name is final before saving.
Step 5

  1. 1The Organization settings page displays the updated organization name in the 'Organization name' field
  2. 2A success confirmation message appears after clicking Save (typically a toast notification or inline confirmation)
